Natural Treatments For Headaches And Migraines

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

By S. Wagner Headaches are a royal pain, and not in the neck. I suffered from headaches daily for ten years and was addicted to extra strength pain killers. I won’t mention any particular brand as it really doesn’t matter. What does matter is that because of this I began to suffer from terrible anemia, most likely from stomach bleeding. Fortunately, I didn’t develop ulcers but did have to get off the pain killers with a blood count of between 8.2 and 8.8. The doctors didn’t know how I was walking around. The truth is, painkillers, like all drugs, can be very dangerous. It doesn’t matter whether you are taking aspirin, ibuprofen, acetaminophen or whatever. Each one has its little and not so little dangers. Oh the drug companies will tell you that you’re only at risk if you take these pain pills for an extended period of time. The point is, why have to take them at all when there are natural alternatives? And yes, the dangers are quite real. Aspirin, even the coated and buffered aspirins can literally burn a hole right through your stomach. That’s right, aspirins are the second leading cause of ulcers in the United States. This is actually the main reason that acetaminophen was created. However, acetaminophen also has its dangers. It has been determined that long term use of acetaminophen can cause liver damage. You no longer have to be a heavy drinker to destroy your liver. What about ibuprofen? Well, for you ladies, it has been determined that ibuprofen can lead to breast cancer. Oh but it gets worse. Ibuprofen usage has been linked to cardiovascular problems, asthma, pregnancy miscarriages and small bowel problems. The biggest problem with all these pain killers is that unless you really know your brand, as these are all generic terms, you have no idea what you’re getting, unless of course it is common aspirin. But how many people know what pain relievers contain acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or whatever else may be in the brand name they’re taking? Many do not know. With all the dangers that have been proven by taking these drugs, you would wonder why anybody would take them at all. Well, the truth is, you don’t have to. There are some very natural treatments for headaches and other aches and pains that are very effective. Eating a balanced diet and taking vitamins will help a great deal in even preventing you from getting headaches. One herb in particular is excellent in preventing and eliminating your headache. The herb is feverfew. This herb can be used not only for treating headaches but for also reducing fever and relieving the symptoms of arthritis. It is also excellent in battling digestive problems. Aside from feverfew, magnesium, vitamin B2, and Coenzyme Q10 are natural supplements that are quite effective for treating headaches and migraines. So the next time you’re thinking of running to the medicine cabinet to grab your pain killer of choice, please remember, there are natural and better treatments for both headaches and migraines. Steve Wagner is no longer addicted to pain killers and can’t remember when his last headache was. Life Purpose and Relationships

Friday, August 10th, 2007

By Ken Donaldson Knowing your life purpose creates more intimate, fulfilling, and balanced relationships. This is true if you are already in a committed relationship and if you are single (or single again) and are planning to be in a relationship. Life purpose answers the questions of, Who am I?, and, Why am I here?. This knowledge and insight creates a firm foundation for you to build your life on. This is much like the foundation of a house. When a house is built on a solid foundation, the house stands solid, withstanding numerous conditions. When you know your life purpose you know what you value, you know what is important, and therefore, what isnt important as well. You have far fewer power struggles, less room for dependency, and when you and your life-partner both know your corresponding life purpose, the relationship becomes a very sacred space that supports both of you in your life journey. If you are single, knowing your life purpose is one the most important elements in making effective relationship choices. You will want someone who fits into your purpose, and who can support and understand it. Likewise, it is wise to be with someone who has a life purpose of their own. In knowing your life purpose you define yourself through it, rather than through the relationship or through the other person. You know who you are, where you are going, what is important, and what you are looking for. Without knowing your life purpose you have a higher likelihood of choosing out of fear and dependency, and thereby, settling for a relationship that is not in your best interest. Knowing your life purpose may be the most powerful element in creating and continuing in healthy and sustaining relationships…Life Purpose: dont leave home (or enter relationships) without it!! What You Can Learn From the Movie “Failure to Launch” About Attracting Women

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

By Teddy Shabba The character Tripp played by Matthew McConaghy in the movie Failure to Launch shows some of the different ways in which a man can attract a women. In fact if Tripp had his own place with a maid and cook instead of living with his parents he would be what most single guys want to be. However, he then would also need to figure out a way to dump women who he knew or thought were after him in large part because of his lifestyle and not the person. Even though he does a variety of interesting things with women on his dates, you get the impression that these are all things that he would be doing even if he was by himself or going out with friends. Because of this level of comfort the women that he is with develop a strong attraction for him or what he likes to call “the look”. Yet, part of this attraction also is in the fact that the things he do give off this perception of wealth. When you take women to nice places and drive expensive cars, this becomes part of you no matter who you are this is going to be part of your appeal. Most of the women Tripp meets I would imagine are attracted first to the lifestyle and then Tripp. This is also why when they give him “the look” he simply takes them to his parent’s house. If a woman really liked him as a person, living with his parents wouldn’t matter much; however, women attracted to the “lifestyle” would run just as quickly as the women do in the movie. If Trip was truly looking for love he would have approached women much more differently. However, since he was just having fun he found much more pleasure into tricking women or I should say deceiving women. This is also part of the reason why he fell for Paula played by Sara Jessica Parker. When he introduced her to the parents she didn’t run instead she accepted it as if she was in love with him unconditionally. Many times men who can afford “the lifestyle” use this as a means to attract women, which if all you are looking for is fun times, then go for it. If you are looking for a woman who Loves you and will make you happy, then “the lifestyle” technique isn’t something that you should use. When you learn how to attract women your relationships can begin to come from a position of strength. Even though the “lifestyle technique” appears to come from a position of strength it actually comes from a position of weakness as you always have to buy more and more things and risk someone else coming along who can buy her those things as well who she has a stronger attraction for. Depression Treatments That Offer Hope

Monday, August 6th, 2007

By Athlyn Green Depression treatments have come a long way and offer hope to sufferers. Research has shed insight into the human brain and its functioning and has come to the rescue with flexible treatment approaches to combat troubling symptoms of depression. The latest scientific evidence confirms that clinical depression is a medical illness, one that causes changes in the brain. Brain chemicals and their balance are affected and treatment for depression is tailored to address those underlying causes. Armed with these insights, science has yielded newer depression treatments that offer fewer side effects. These are used in conjunction with traditional medicines that are still effective for those who may not respond to the newer medications. What medications are available? Your doctor will first consider different factors when deciding on a drug therapy for you. He or she will determine your history, whether you have suffered bouts of depression in the past, the severity of your depression, and your age. Then he or she will decide on an appropriate treatment for depression for you. Your doctor will draw from an arsenal of different antidepressants, SSRIs, tricyclics, or MAOIs, or additional drugs. These are all effective medications. When depression treatments are in the early stage, your doctor may select a SSRI. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors are a beneficial treatment choice because they do not present the same severity of side effects. If you have tried a SSRI without tangible benefit, your doctor may choose a tricyclic antidepressant. This may be indicated if you have tried several different medications but have seen no appreciable improvement. A tricyclic may be called on if you are in the throes of a major depression. MAOIs may be tapped as a last resort as treatment for depression. Use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors is fraught with potential dietary and drug interactions. Drugs such as Wellbutrin, Effexor, Remeron, or Desyrel may not necessarily fit into drug classifications of antidepressants but these may be selected in depression treatments for you because the risk of side effects is reduced. Thankfully, newer drugs have yielded a reduction in side effects and are used to effectively treat depressive disorders. Because long-term effects have not yet been established, you will want to discuss potential benefits and risks with your doctor, once a treatment for depression has been decided upon. If side effects are a concern or if you find that you are sensitive to medications, an alternative approach is the use of natural remedies. Natural supplements are gaining in popularity as viable depression treatments and the good news is that their use is not attenuated with the side effects encountered in prescription medications. Chamomile is effective in alleviating insomnia and anxiety and offers beneficial anxiolytic effects (anxiety reduction), valerian is used for mood disorders such as depression. Clinical studies suggest a neuroprotective effect associated with valerian extracts. Calcium and magnesium treat emotional and physical stress. Ginkgo biloba has been shown to increase the oxygen content to the brain, aiding in concentration and mental acuity, as well as its use for treatment for depression. Many beneficial vitamins and minerals, amino acids, enzymes, specialty supplements and additional herbal extracts are combined in herbal preparations, which are specifically formulated to improve, balance, and restore damaged neurotransmitters in the brain. Science offers newer medications for depression and researchers have uncovered the exciting potential of substances derived from nature. Depression does not have to interfere with quality of life. New depression treatments offer help and hope. Athlyn Green is an avid health enthusiast with an interest in natural remedies for treatment of health disorders. On-Target Products During Off-Season Months

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

By Shawn Howard The major holiday season came and went. No more wrapping paper and packing peanuts flooding your office closets. No more confetti and champagne corks left to sweep out from under your desks. Youve now entered the down-season where spending decreases and everyone falls into the winter blahs. Now what do you do to keep your company sharp and exciting? Create a giveaway schedule that recognizes the lesser celebrated months and holidays. In an annual marketing campaign, maintaining awareness through traditional advertising can get difficult during down-times and off seasons. Flighting during this time drops and the consumers see less of your brand. Also, your traditional ads begin to lose their initial edge due to overexposure of the same advertisement if it does not have an evergreen theme. Finding a way to keep the attention of your clients can get difficult if you dont take a different approach. Promotional products can shake things up a bit and bring more excitement during the slower month. Not only do they add excitement, promotional products in general, can increase and strengthen awareness and remind your clients exactly why they love you. Sure you can go along with industry trend and send out promotions for Valentines Day, St. Patricks Day and Cinco de Mayo. When you choose the right product, these holidays can prove a successful time to profit. However, think outside of the box and correlate your promotional product with the theme of a given month so you can stand out in the memories of the clients. If you dont have a large enough budget to have a monthly schedule for giveaways and then start with three or four of your favorite months and products. Consider the following when investing in a non traditional annual giveaway schedule: February: Responsible Pet Owner Month February isnt about loving only your spouse, children and friends, its also about showing appreciation to people who take good care of their animals. Choose a product that rewards both the owner and the pet, while at the same time reminding your clients about your dedication and appreciation to them. March: National Peanut Month From peanut butter to chocolate covered peanuts and plain old salted shell peanuts, March lets you treat your clients to a universal feel-good snack. Send your clients a jar of peanuts to say hello and thanks. Its a good time to get them excited for baseball season since spring training kicks off in March also. April: National Anxiety Month Stress and anxiety can be a killer, especially around tax time. So consider sending your clients a gift bag filled with branded products like soothing teas, stress balls and aromatherapy candles so they can get out of April anxiety free. May: National Good Car Care Month Any mechanic will tell you that good car maintenance increases the life and overall performance of your car. Encourage this by putting your name and logo on ice scrapers and funnels. June: National Ice Tea June 22, the longest day on the calendar and the summer solstice official mark the beginning of summer. With the summer come pools, BBQs and ice tea. Get behind this fun loving month and theme by sending you clients plastic pilsner glasses and a tea set. Let them know you want them to enjoy a nice refreshing break courtesy of your company. July: National Tennis Month This month means more than just fireworks and beer and bratwursts, its about enjoying yet another summer pastime, tennis. To increase your reach and exposure in July, gift your clients with labeled sport towels, water bottles and even a set of tennis balls. Youll take their minds off the left over potato salad and put in on your company. August: National Golf Month Could there be a better time to get the attention of your clients? The popularity of the sport makes it so easy to find golf products to brand and send to your clients. This offers a great way to show appreciation for their business and keep them thinking about you on the greens. Logo anything from golf balls and putters to tees and towels and give them in honor of National Golf month. September: National Courtesy Month Give a gift of thanks to your loyal customers to follow the theme of the month and prepare them for the fall. Think practical, maybe a branded umbrella or new travel mug can both appease your audience and get you the recognition you want. When your company feels the need to put some extra energy in your campaign, look to promotional products that have an interesting and unique theme. Promotions on a themed schedule keeps your company top of mind year-round since they product such positive outcomes. These products will put in front of your clients and audiences during the off season holidays and generate increase exposure, recognition and perception of your brand. http://www.absorbentprinting.com/ Shawn Howard is a senior in the William Allen White School of Journalism at the University of Kansas and a member of the online marketing team at Pilgrim Page advertising. Virgin Coconut Oil - Solution for Your Health

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

By F Aziz Perhaps you are among those many people who aren’t familiar with the benefits of this miracle oil. I don’t mean to judge you, but that’s the fact…most of us have been brainwashed so long with the wrong concept. For decades, most of people assume that coconut oil has significant relationship with the cholesterol-rich plaques in blood vessels. This misleading conclusion was actually based on a study done about four decades ago, using hydrogenated coconut oil, not virgin coconut oil. Unlike hydrogenated coconut oil, virgin coconut oil is derived from fresh coconuts without bleach, solvents, nor heating in the process. Most of the saturated fats in virgin coconut oil is made up of Medium-Chain Fatty Acids (MCFA), which has unique properties that are very beneficial for both food and non-food uses. Despite forming cholesterol-rich plaques in blood vessels, the fats in virgin coconut oil are used by your body as an instant source of fuel. This MCFA is more easily digested than other fats found in other oils, because they are processed directly in your liver. Many researches done lately show a long list of benefits of virgin coconut oil, that Mary G. Enig, Ph.D claimed this oil in support in good health in the 21st century. F. Aziz is the owner of all-about-Virgin-Coconut-Oil.com, a site that provides many valuable informations around Virgin Coconut Oil, its definitions, derivations, benefits and uses in the form of articles, reports, recommended sources, books, products and others.
