Only You Can Save Your Marriage

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

By Vanshika Anand Beginning four to six months of marriage go very well. Both life partners enjoy physical as well as emotional intimacy. They are conscious about the physical and emotional needs of each other as a result they are able to satisfy each other to a great extent. They pay extra attention to each other intentionally as both of them want to impress each other. They try to highlight their plus points. But with the passage of time things start changing. Now they find themselves unable to continue this pattern of living. As they live in this materialistic world they have to start thinking and working hard for fulfilling their materialistic needs. They also have to give respectable place to other relations too and give them appropriate time. Because of it they are unable to take care of each other. It causes frustration and when it increases it converts into anger. In anger both life partners start accusing each other for not providing sufficient time. They hold each other responsible for spoiling their life. Here both of them need to understand that neither of them is at fault. Even if they want they can neither stop earning nor boycotting other relations, as both are necessary for living in this world. So the best and wise way is to accept this truth and try to adjust with each other. 1. Do spare only fifteen minutes for each other. In this period, just talk about each other only. 2. Learn to express your love in words. Let your partner know that you love him or her. 3. Try to have interest in the work in which your partner has interest. It will help both of you to have extra time to spend with each other. 4. Even if you have to say no to your partner be very polite. 5. When your partner is tensed sooth his/her nerves by showing your love, affection and care. It will bring you close to each other. 6. Appreciate each other for being careful towards physical and emotion needs. Gardening - Fill Your Cottage Gardens With Free Plants!

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

By Pearl Sanborn I love to dream - and one of the things that I love to dream about is my cottage garden.I pull out back issues of my favorite magazines, gardening books, and seed catalogues to add to the plethora of ideas already stored in my minds eye. There is one small problem however. When you start shopping at the garden centers & from all of the plant catalogues, you start to see a growing trend - all of these beautiful plants add up to lots of money! I need to be honest with you for a second. You see, Im not really good at waiting several years to add a plant here & a plant there to my garden. Im the kind of person who sees something beautiful, then tries to find a way to make it happen in my own garden. Sometimes the ideas work out wonderfully, and sometimes I learn a lesson from the whole process. In any case, my garden is always better because of it. We all live such busy lives, and we do our best to have our obligations taken care of. Sometimes, despite all of our work & effort, we just dont have the extra amount of money that it would take to have the garden of our dreams. I know that feeling personally, and thats why I wanted to take this time to share with you some of the ideas that I have discovered for finding free plants over the years. Soon, with a little bit of creative thinking, youll have to start giving plants away due to lack of any more space in your garden! - Weekly Clean Up In our village, the city trucks come around & pick up yard debris that is set out for pick up. Youd be surprised at how many plants are put out to the curb! Im still not sure of the reason? Could be a change in color scheme, or perhaps they just got tired of taking care of it? In any case, Ive found many nice plants just by collecting them before the debris truck does! - Cuttings Either from your own plants or from your friend’s, small clippings add up to lots of free mature plants! I know one gal who offers to tidy up the gardens in her neighborhood in exchange for the clippings and extra plants that she cleans up. Most plants will grow from cuttings, and a small section a few inches long is all you need! Just cut a small piece of the stem of most any plant - pull off all but the top few leaves - insert it into some moist sand. In no time you’ll have roots & a free plant! Mint, tomatoes, roses, hydrangeas, holly, and butterfly bush are all examples of plants that will grow from cuttings. - Discards From Stores Become friends with the person in charge of your local flower department in the big super centers! When plants get a little tired looking, they may give them to you free! All you need to do is give the plants some TLC! Example: Recently in our local grocery super center, they were selling spring bulbs. In a short while the flowers had faded & the plants were no longer wanted by shoppers. Most folks have no idea that these plants can be planted outside for spring flowers next year! Just ask if you can have the “old” flower pots after the flowers fade! *Keep your eyes open for Easter lilies, outside they can grow up to 4 ft. with lots more blooms than you see in that little pot! * My poinsettia is also still doing great from Christmas! I pinch back the stems as the red flowers (actually leaves) dry out. New beautiful sets of leaves bud have budded out already! I will plant it outside as soon as the danger of frost is past, then bring it in for a new round of Christmas blooms. I also broke off a few of the longer stems & stuck them down in the soil. They have already grown roots! I know everyone throws out their poinsettia plants after Christmas, but when I went to Africa some years back, one of the most amazing memories I have were the huge poinsettia TREES!!! So I am going to see how far I can take this little beauty ;) - Restaurants & Parks Most businesses replace their plants as the flowers fade. This year, start a relationship with the businesses in your area. Let them know that you are willing to take the unsightly plants off of their hands after they are finished blooming ;) We don’t mind since we know they will bloom again next year in our gardens! - Greenhouses While walking around larger greenhouses, I’ve noticed all of the large garbage cans throughout the place filled with soil, clippings, and old plants. Ask for their clippings for your compost pile, then use what you can to make new plants by rooting them, and throw the rest into the compost heap! * Remember, as in the case of an African Violet, it may only take one leaf to start a new plant! - Garden Exchange Get free plants & seeds by trading them for plants that you already have. You could do this by starting a garden exchange in your area. Newspapers are always looking for news to print, and since a garden exchange is an event, you can even get your advertising free of charge! Do a quick search & you will see lots of websites that post listings for free plants & seeds. Lots of times you can get wonderful expensive plants FREE! There are many, but some of the larger ones are: http://www.gardenweb.com http://www.seedman.com Get free shipping supplies to ship all of your plants! Call - 1-800-222-1811 You can get free boxes, mailing labels, tape, etc., from the post office. It’s great to have these items delivered right to your door free of charge! Take a moment to see what other items you may need, by going to: http://supplies.usps.gov With these great ideas, you’ll be frugal gardening at its best! Understanding The Chakras System

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

By Rose Reynolds The word chakra is derived from the Sanskrit word meaning “wheel”. The chakras are described as “whirling disks of light”, and each chakra radiates a specific color, energy and each is also associated with an element (earth, water, fire). There are many energy channels in the body, but here we focus on the seven main ones. These are located along the backbone beginning at the base, and running upwards to the crown of the head. They are likened to the unfolding of the lotus flower as it strives towards the light. When all the chakras are open, and an individual is vibrant, and well, all the colors of the rainbow emerge in the electromagnetic energy that surrounds the body, which is that person’s aura. An Aura is an energy field that interpenetrates close to and radiates out beyond the physical body. It is made up of different energy vibrations or frequencies. One could imagine of it as an atmosphere around the human body. Understanding the chakras system allows you to be aware of the relationship between your consciousness and your physical body. It gives you a superior understanding of yourself and those around you. The chakras store and circulate energy and information. They also serve as the setting of our psychological or mental inclinations, habits, and wants. In fact, the astral spine is a great, downward extension of the subconscious mind. It is said that if a chakra becomes blocked or polluted, than an illness may develop in the physical area that is related to it. By releasing the trapped energy, the physical blockage may also be released. Not only will physical bodily activities be affected, but the thought processes and the mind could also be affected. You may may feel tired, out of sorts, or downhearted. Conscious awareness and balancing of these energy centers leads to well-being. All of the yoga poses affect the chakras and aid to keep the energies flowing openly. During meditation, you may decide to focus on one chakra and experience the energy and vibrations stored within it. You may want to put on or visualize the color of that chakra . Rose Reynolds provides more information on yoga and the seven chakras on her website. Cottage Gardens

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

By Bill McRea Cottage gardens are to a cottage or rather cottage styled houses. Random and carefree in form and a cluttered look are the characteristics of this type of gardens. A profusion of old-fashioned colorful flowers add life to cottage gardens. Cottage gardens are English in origin and were built by workers who lived in cottages and these gardens provided food and herbs. They also planted beautiful flowery plants for decoration like perennials or bulbs. Watering and weeding efforts were reduced as plants were planted very closely and in abundant sunlight. Flowery plants like hollyhocks, delphinium and daisies, which are not seasonal, are the cottage garden favorites. While creating your own cottage garden, always remember that paths across these gardens are lead not only from the entrance of the garden to your front door but also surround your cottage for a pleasant walk around. So two kinds of path are needed, preferably narrow, wide and decorated on the sides. These paths can be made out of gravel, cobbled-setts, wood, york-stone, bark or paving slabs. Gravel is cheap, quick and easy to lay and hence a very popular choice. Cobbled-setts are a bit difficult to walk on and build and are best suited for people who give maximum amount of time to their gardens. Wood looks good near or around a water feature. York-stone gets slippery when they are wet so are not the obvious choice. Bark is ideal for temporary paths and paving slabs are good in all sense. Cottage gardens look ideal if these paths are lined with flowers or plants. Lavender, forsythia and box balls can be planted along the sides of the path spaced about 1.8m and with uniform gaps in them. This will give a look of order amidst the chaos. Plants are grown very closely to each other to give the cottage gardens a natural unkempt look. But doing this can be tough. Be very careful while grouping your plants and make it look like naturally grown. Choose by color, height and texture and this would help you in grouping them. You can arrange them at random or in rows or drifts or group them by their types. You may want to use a mixture which is very popular but remember to make it look as natural as possible. Cottage gardens generally do not require a lot of maintenance. They are generally left to look after themselves and therefore can have a lot of common flowers. It is very easy to build a cottage garden. Plan out the hardscape surface and then plant the shrubs, trees and perennials. Add a touch of design by using old pottery or baskets as a design element in the garden, which add to the old-world charm of cottage gardens. Gardening and landscaping are one of life’s simple joys. Corporate Gift Tips To Wow Clients & Associates

Friday, October 26th, 2007

By Alicia McSorley 1) Know the company and their culture. Are they trendy and artistic or conservative and elegant? Your gift giving should reflect this. Also, global customs vary significantly. Ensure you understand the proper gift etiquette to avoid offending overseas clients. 2) Know the client - their likes, hobbies, and interests. When possible, personalize your gift. A theater or sports buff would really appreciate and remember tickets to an event. 3) Avoid religious themes or messages. Seasonal themes such as “Happy Holidays” work for everyone. 4) Stand out from the crowd! Think about sending your gift on an unexpected holiday. For example: “Thank You For Your Business” on Thanksgiving, “Looking Forward To Another Year of Doing Business With You” on New Years, or even “We love Doing Business With You” on Valentine’s day. 5) Dont send the same thing every year. It’s boring and will be taken for granted. Your gift provider is full of ideas and can often suggest something new and different. 6) Stay away from anything too personal or that can be misconstrued. You probably know not to buy lingerie, but the recipients shortcomings may also need to be considered. A person with bad skin may be offended by a gift certificate for a facial. Also, be careful with wine or alcohol. The company may view it negatively or the individual may be a reformed alcoholic or non-drinker. Finally, consider whether the price of the gift is too extravagant. This may be a problem with company policy or at tax time. Food is always appropriate. 7) Dont use logo items if:You want the gift to be from you personally or if feel a huge logo across your gift may be viewed by the client as cheap. 8) Do use logo items if:You want to get the most bang for your buck. Just do it tastefully. Examples: Your company name imprinted on the ribbons in a gift basket or discreetly as a private label on a quality product in the basket. One of our clients prefers ribbons used inside the basket to avoid imprinted ribbon being removed and forgotten. 9) Idea for out of state clients:A regional themed food basket can work really well here - Greetings from Texas, New York, or New Jersey for example. Some companies even send these types of gifts to visiting VIPs or new hires as a “Welcome To Town.” 10) Plan your holiday gift giving early.Think July or August! This will allow you to take advantage of big early purchase discounts and avoid rush delivery charges. It will also ensure that you get exactly what you want before its sold out. Increasing The Number Of Guests In Your Restaurant

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

By Lydia Quinn Quite possibly the biggest challenge facing any restaurant is how to increase the numbers of guests in your restaurant. For years owners have been trying new ideas and concepts to attract customers to their restaurants. Daily specials, sponsoring local sports or musical events and advertising in local newspapers or high schools are all tested methods of drawing guests into your restaurant, but they are dated and have a minimal impact if any. The true secret to increasing the number of guests in your restaurant is, Do it Right. Whatever you decide as your theme or menu for your restaurant doesnt matter. What does matter is that you focus on what you do well, and nothing else. Lets start with the menu. Are your portions the right size? How many of the plates being brought back to the kitchen are empty? If the plates arent empty, what items remain? These are questions an owner or manager should be asking the servers regularly to ascertain which portions are too large and which are too small. Do you have too many items on your menu? In the hopes of attracting more customers, restaurants have begun to diversify their menus by offering exotic foods and delicacies. The end result is an overloaded menu that provides too many choices for the guest. A typical menu should contain no more than 8-10 appetizers, 10-12 main courses and 4-6 desserts. There are two reasons why this formula works. The first reason is that by limiting the number of items the kitchen has to produce, they become faster and more skilled in the preparation of those dishes. When diners go out for dinner they have a rough idea of what it is they want to eat. By providing a simplified, but well-balanced menu means the guests can spend more time enjoying the dining experience and less time selecting the meal. Now that you have the menu and the kitchen in order we need to look at the service. There is no better way of increasing the number of guests in your restaurant than by providing excellent guest service. Think yourself, how many times you have returned to a restaurant that had great food and lousy service. For most of you the answer will be never. Now think about how many times you have returned to a restaurant that had great service and mediocre food. Most of you will probably say that on at least one occasion you have gone back to a restaurant because the service you received was outstanding. Service-staff are the front-line workers for your restaurant and therefore the strongest impression of your product. Having a capable service team is a huge challenge for any restaurant, but the best way to reduce theses challenges are training and consistency. Train your team to perform each task in the same manner every time and you will see dramatic results. If every server serves each guest the same way (exclusive of individual personalities) every time, you will see their speed increase, their ability to assist other team members increase and most importantly their accountability will increase. At the end of the day it comes down to the owner or manager to follow-up on standards and training. If a restaurant has an incredible service package that is never enforced, then there is really no service package at all. As an owner or manager you should visit each table and speak with as many guests as you can to get a true feel of how your service and kitchen teams are performing. Remember, these challenges can be overcome with a little planning, lots of training and consistent follow-up. Its your business, if you dont take an active role in ensuring its success, who will? Getting Past Fear

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

By Dale Kurow Have you gotten tons of career advice, solicited and unsolicited? You nod when you hear it and think, “Yeah, I know this stuff.” So, what else is new? But what have you done with the advice? Fess up. Probably very little. Do any of these scenarios fit? * You’re in a job you absolutely hate. It’s ruining your health and your life. You stay because of the money or the fear that there’s nothing better out there. * You’re in a job where your boss ignores you, barks instructions and expects you to be a workaholic. But you stay because a new boss might be worse. * You’re lazy. You figure that one of these days, you’ll hear about a great job, the economy will improve, or maybe your boss will realize how great you are. Plus, you don’t have a resume. * Or, you’re unemployed and decide not to pursue a job that you heard about, or a field you are interested in, because one person said they were looking for experience you didn’t have. Well, they know best, right? Hello. I want to grab you by the shoulders, look into your eyes and say, “Wake up and smell the coffee!” Santa Claus is not coming down your chimney, and Elvis has permanently left the building. So, why do otherwise savvy adults live with this passive mindset? F-E-A-R. Fear of failure. Fear of success. Fear of rejection. You name it, fear has a starring role, with procrastination and laziness as costars. But there’s help at hand! I read a book 12 years ago, Feel The Fear And Do It Anywayby Dr. Susan Jeffers, that changed my life. It has been changing my clients’ lives ever since. The crucial thing I learned from this book is that everything depends upon your attitude, your perception of the situation. Not what happens. Not what people say or do. But how you view it. So, you’ve heard that before, too, right? Has it changed the way you tell yourself how to view what happens? I doubt it. Here’s the powerful stuff (and stuff I bet you’ve heard before, too). Nobody changes his or her attitude without working at it. I’m here to tell you that you need to work that attitude muscle, just like you do your biceps at the gym. Otherwise, forget it. You don’t wake up one morning, optimistic, ready to take on the world and feeling like Pollyanna. Especially if you’re out of work, hate your job or are just plain lazy. So, how do you change your attitude? Years of therapy. No, just kidding. Like exercising your biceps, the attitude muscle needs work everyday. I recommend reading Jeffers’ book, cover to cover. In the meantime, here are some tips: Internal Dialogue exercises (you need to do these more than once a day for starters): * Change the dialogue you have with yourself. Instead of thinking, “I’m afraid” or “I don’t want to look stupid,” think, “I can handle that” or “I know I will get a job.” * Instead of thinking, “Gee, that’s a problem,” think, “It’s an opportunity.” If someone says, “You don’t have the kind of experience for that type of work,” think, “It’s one person saying it; let me get more information.” * And forget about words like “should” or “try.” Ban them from your vocabulary. They are negative and weak words. Own your power! You either will or won’t. When I first read Jeffers’ book, I pasted positive quotes all over the refrigerator and near my desk. I suggest you use quotes that are meaningful to you. Here’s one I love:”I’m not a failure if I don’t make it .I’m a success because I tried.” Unknown Finally, most people think they are the only one experiencing gut-wrenching fear. NOT. You are going to feel the fear whenever you are in new territory (a good thing), but SO IS EVERYONE ELSE. This is one club you’ll want to join. Membership requirements-facing down your fear and bravely moving forward despite it! Dale Kurow, M.S., is an author and a career and executive coach in NYC. How to Spot an Undude!

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

By Michael Douglas Johnny Depp is a dude. Hugh Jackman is a dude. Even perennially cute Hugh Grant is a dude. Going desi, Abhishek Bachchan is a dude. There are some guys/boys/men you see and the only way to describe them is, “Now that’s a dude.” Yet there are others who you know are the ‘undudes’. But who is an undude and are you dating one? Don’t be in the blind. Here’s how you spot an undude and completely avoid him! When you’re at a party Before you see him, you will hear him. While the dudes will be chilling, the Undude will be screaming, “C’mon everybody, let’s groooove. ld’s a parrrty.” It’s easier spotting them at a costume party - the Batmen, Zorros and Supermen are easily the undudes. No imagination and a preference for spandex. When you are at work The loudest mouth, the biggest ideas and an eagerness to please the higher ups. That’s an undude. Before you get into bed with him! If you’re considering his-place-or-yours, here’s a small test to check the ‘dude-ability’ of your lust/love interest. A dude, will ALWAYS carry condoms in his wallet. An undude will never. Check the moment there’s any opportunity-preferably when you are still contemplating ‘it’. If you don’t find one, cut the contemplation and get out. When it’s time for goodnight The ultimate test is the goodbye-kiss stage. A dude will either shake hands or kiss your cheek. The undude however, before you know, will either have his tongue in your mouth or his hands all over you. Practice groin kicks and move on. When you’re playing the field Women who date will tell you that the hardest thing yet is going through a series of undudes before you meet The Dude. Hopefully, you’ve not had to experience one. However, this is the final indication. An undude is a whiner. Beat him at a board game, he will fight. Debate on an issue and he’d either scream at you or throw a tantrum. His job sucks, his boss sucks, he needs more money, his mother doesn’t call enough… Women are good at worrying about things anyway. You really don’t need a guy doing it for you. Happy avoiding and happy spotting, er, eyeing… the Dude we mean. Look for more free online dating tips and dating ideas at Love-Lectures.com. Nun Shot in the Back Due to Pope Speech?

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

By Lance Winslow Many Muslim clerics of Islam have violently protested the Pope’s speech about the history of the Catholic Church and Mohammed. Unfortunately, due to this outrage and the media publicity in the Arab world, some radical Arabs of Islam in Mogadishu, Somalia have shot a Catholic Nun in the back who was working at a hospital minding her own business. This seems rather unfortunate that radical Muslims would take it into their own hands to commit murder on a Catholic Nun because of something that was in the Pope’s speech. The Catholic Pope has issued a statement saying that he is sorry that the Muslims of Islam have overreacted to his historical account of what a former pope had said about Islam and Mohammed. The Catholic Pope also stated that he did not hold those same views and yet the Muslim community is outraged by this. We have a double standard in the world and a clash of religion and it is undermining the forward progression of the human species and it will be difficult for all civilizations, societies and countries to move forward at this point until something is done to calm down the radical element of Islam. In response, some of the radical elements of Islam have called the Catholic Pope; an infidel dog. Once again showing the double standard and absolute inability to get along in the world. Please consider this in 2006. “Lance Winslow” - Online Think Tank forum board. Wedding Anniversary Gift Ideas: Benefits of Online Wedding Photo Albums

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

By Earl Juanico Technology evolves, so does wedding anniversary gift ideas. A relatively new feature added to weddings capitalizes on the advances in digital photo processingonline wedding photo albums. Online wedding photo albums makes for an interesting wedding anniversary gift idea. Several photographers these days have turned to the Web in marketing their services. These photographers have developed websites specially suited for couples who would want to view and choose their wedding pictures online. As a matter of fact, this new type of hype presents numerous benefits not only to couples but also to their family and friends. Online wedding photo albums are either websites independently maintained, on which wedding photos can be posted or are special web pages on a photographers website to house online wedding pictures. Having wedding photos posted online makes it effortless for friends and family to derive pictures when the time comes they think about creating a personalized wedding anniversary gift for the couple. Digital photo technology offers the advantage of easy retrieval, as well as seamless processing of pictures. Having these digital pictures available online cuts a substantial amount of effort of having to find and gather prints piled up from long years of dormancy. Moreover, online photos do not fade as prints do in time, thus preserving the vividness of memories of such a well-cherished moment in the couples lives. Online wedding photo albums are indeed becoming increasingly popular these days. As a wedding anniversary gift idea, online wedding photos in digital format can easily be organized or rearranged into something like a photo essay, to tell a particular story or convey a well-thought out theme to the couple for rekindling memories. It also offers a lot of room for customization and personalization of wedding anniversary gifts that use the online wedding pictures. The pictures can be stored in a CD, or can be organized as a slideshow at a couples 20th wedding anniversary. Another facility offered by online wedding photo albums is that guests can actually post personalized notes and comments. It is more like an online guestbook or signature board. Since most people are hooked to the Internet these days, it is only fitting to have friends and relatives sign their comments in. Online wedding albums definitely offer a substantial amount of convenience and flexibility. Digital photos posted on the digital album do not get dusted or fade through time. Compared to traditional printed wedding photo albums, the online version not only preserves the visual quality of the wedding pictures, but can also be printed and re-printed without the hassle of storage problems. For personalized wedding anniversary gifts such gift books, online wedding photo albums can provide high-quality image content that can be played around and tailored to the overall motif of the gift book. The underlying purpose of a wedding anniversary gift is neither to obey traditions nor exhibit lavishness. The message of love embedded into a wedding anniversary gift can be relayed successfully when it created with love. An online album with photos of the most memorable moments in a couples marriage may not be a traditional and expensive way of showing appreciation, but there nothing as priceless as such a personal thoughtful gift.
