Restaurants - Pizza Parlors

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By Michael Russell If you live in the United States, you can’t drive for more than two blocks in any major city or town without seeing a pizza parlor. You would think that they were giving away gold at these places the way they’re packed throughout the day. So what is it with these establishments that Americans just can’t get enough of them? We’ll take a look at some of the finer points of your not so finer eating place. For one thing, pizza parlors, sometimes referred to as pizzerias, are open much later than most of your other restaurants in the states, except maybe for your late night diner, which we’ll cover in another article. Pizza parlors are many times open til past midnight. Most don’t even open until after 12 noon as very few people have pizza for breakfast, though I am sure there are some people who would eat it then too. As for the food itself, well, that really depends on the parlor itself. They are not all the same. The smaller ones usually don’t have much of a selection. As a matter of fact, there are some pizza parlors that only have maybe two or three varieties of pizza. The most common ones for the small parlor are plain, sausage and pepperoni. Maybe you’ll get an extra cheese as well, but that’s about it. Also, with these really small places, most of which you can find on the beaches, they don’t even sell whole pies. It’s by the slice and that’s it. And don’t expect anything other than a slice of pie and a soda or fruit drink. As we work our way up to the larger places, the next size parlor will usually have a couple more varieties and also make whole pies. These places will usually have a soda case where you can pick out from a variety of drinks. Or you can order a fountain drink as well. The prices of these parlors are also usually a little lower than the places that only sell slices because they work on a higher profit margin since they don’t have as much product. Finally, we get to the really large pizza parlors. These places will have just about every type of pie you can think of including mushroom, anchovy, broccoli, Sicilian and a host of others. You can usually see the variety of slices lined up on the counter as you walk in. But pizza isn’t where these places stop. You can also get a host of other items such as hot and cold subs. The hot subs are usually meatball and sausage. The cold subs are a variety of cold cuts such as roast beef, turkey, salami and ham as well as a number of cheeses that they cover these with. And then finally, many of the large parlors have hot meals as well such as spaghetti and meatballs, ziti and linguini and clam sauce. Their drink selection is also usually off the charts as well. Of course if you just want a plain slice of pizza, in the good old US of A, you can go just about anywhere. Marketing Research - Strategies for a Winning Marketing Plan

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By Cynthia Pinsonnault It’s time for a new marketing plan and some of us would rather have our fingernails pulled out than sit down and work out a new strategy. So we put it off or wait for the new year to start this project, because the new year is a time to start over, to put the past year behind us and to make resolutions for the coming year. But, there is nothing that says we can only make resolutions at the beginning of the year. One definition for resolution is, “A course of action determined or decided on.” A marketing plan could be considered a course of action determined or decided on for the operation of a business. A marketing plan encompasses every aspect of a business. It is more than selling, more than advertising and, it can be done any time of the year. Furthermore, it can and should be reviewed several times a year. Often, we start a new marketing plan by taking up where the old plan left off. We review that plan, maybe update a few items. We start out by asking “What went wrong? What went right?” This approach assumes all the data is in and all that is needed is to eliminate the things that did not work out and beef up the things that did work. While that is a legitimate and very workable way to approach building marketing strategies, the focus is a bit narrow. It does not help shine a light on new opportunities, changes in the marketplace or industry, or new methodologies that might improve efficiency. Furthermore, the best marketing results come from tightly focused marketing that clearly communicates to a targeted audience. In a workaday world that gives us little time for reflective consideration, we often tend to rush this process and assume that the company is doing what it should be doing, selling what it should be selling, marketing to the right audience, and is organized and staffed the way it should be. This year, let’s take a moment and ask ourselves more questions about the market, our audience, our resources and our competition. Your marketing plan can take a whole new direction when you get the answers to questions such as: “Is this still the right thing to sell? Is this still viable? Is this what people want? Does it still fit with our corporate identity and mission? Who wants this product or service, and what are the benefits they believe they get? How do our company, our products and our services compare to similar companies, products and services in the marketplace today? Has our competition changed their product or business model?” Once you get a good feel for the marketplace and any new opportunities or challenges coming from outside the business, it’s time to take a look inside with questions like: “Have we added capabilities, skills or knowledge that suggest we serve new markets? Are there capabilities, skills, knowledge or equipment that we need to develop or acquire? Or should we be narrowing our focus to take advantage of specialized skills and services? Have we tried to become everything to everyone? Could we be number one in a niche market?” If you honestly evaluate both the external and internal influences on your business or product, it becomes easy to develop a marketing mix for success. You will learn what you need to be telling clients and prospects and you will know who that target audience is. You will likely get information that indicates where your marketing and advertising budget should be allocated. Whatever questions you ask, just be sure to ask them. One tip: If, like most of us, you don’t have time for a long client and prospect survey, study what your competition is doing and evaluate what they do that is truly successful (not just everything they do), and look through your own customer records for trends, problems and successes. How To Do Bonsai - 4 Keys For The Beginner To Know

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

By Rob Richards I remember the first time I was exposed to the beautiful artistry of Bonsai. When I was about 5 years old, I was visiting relatives at my uncles house in Tokyo, Japan. After a while, some of us kids went out to the back “yard”. In Tokyo, as in most places in Japan, land is a real premium, so the back “yard” was really just a small rock garden. It was in that small, simple, yet beautiful rock garde, that I saw my first bonsai tree. It was so tiny, yet proportionally perfect. I later found out that it was more than 40 years old! I was hooked! Bonsai or the art of growing miniature trees, requires patience and know how. In this article I will touch on 5 things that every aspiring Bonsai artist should know, in their quest to learn How To Do Bonsai. How To Do Bonsai - Key #1…Bonsai Are Not Houseplants. For the most part, bonsai are outdoor plant and should remain outdoors all year long. Of course, that does not mean that they cannot come indoors to be enjoyed for a short while, just that a majority of the time they need to be outside. Bonsai are temperate climate plants that require a period of dormancy. Dormancy is a survival strategy that temperate climate species have evolved to stay alive over the winter. These plants have an internal clock that tell them when to slow their growth activity, so that they may survive any extreme or freezing temperatures. For the home bonsai artist, you will need a place outside to keep your plants. How To Do Bonsai - Key #2…Bonsai Must Be Trained. Bonsai are trained to look a certain way through a number of different techniques. This can be accomplished through manipulating the trunk and branches through pruning and wiring. This is where the heart of the bonsai artistry resides. To make mistakes in this area of training could lead to deadly results. Don’t be disheartened though. Anyone, with some proper training and time can learn how to properly train their bonsai. How To Do Bonsai - Key #3…Bonsai Must be Fed and Watered. Just like all other plant life, bonsai require three things to survive: sun, food and water. Assuming your bonsai resides primarily outside, as the bonsai artist, your primary concern is to feed and water your trees. Feeding your bonsai with the proper nutrients and trace elements is crucial to promote proper and healthy growth. Watering improperly is probably the most common mistake made by beginners. Again, with the proper teaching resource, whether that is a Master Bonsai artist or a reputable how to book, anyone can easily learn how to properly care for their bonsai. How To Do Bonsai - Key #4…Bonsai Require Time. Many first time bonsai artists think that “owning’ a bonsai is what it is all about. This is not what bonsai is all about. Bonsai is all about the enjoyment of caring for them and ultimately their creation. Remember: bonsai truly is an art form and as such requires time to perfect. As an aspiring bonsai artist you will need time to learn how to properly care for and train your tree, but you must also have the time to see it come to fruition. Bonsai are not created over night. A typical bonsai may not even be placed into a bonsai pot until after a few years of training. Don’t rush the process, enjoy it! After reading this article, I hope you have come to understand a little more of what the art of bonsai is all about. Have fun! You can learn from the Bonsai Masters how to grow, train and care for your own bonsai art!http://www.squidoo.com/How-To-Do-Bonsai/ Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Rob_Richards http://EzineArticles.com/?How-To-Do-Bonsai—4-Keys-For-The-Beginner-To-Know&id=460646 dangers ambien ativan rss feed ambien cost ambien coupon sample

Bad Credit Payday Loans - Emergency Cash For People With Bad Credit

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Kevin_Nelson]Kevin Nelson Often times when people need to raise cash fast, they’ll seek out a payday loan service to help them get by. These can be a blessing for those times when things catch you by surprise, but if you have bad credit, getting a payday loan can be a little more difficult. However, there are even payday loan solutions out there for people with bad credit. That’s right, the good news is that there are several companies that offer bad credit payday loans. These services understand that many people have less than perfect credit but that everyone falls on hard times once in awhile. They’re willing to work with you to provide you the cash you need in the short term and this money can be used for whatever purpose you need it for. With most companies, you can probably get your money the same day you apply. But since there are higher fees involved when compared to a traditional loan, these types of loans should really only be used for short-term needs, not to solve bigger financial problems. Most companies allow you to apply right over the internet by filling out a simple application form. Submitting the application and getting approved is quick and easy. In the past, they usually required you to fax in various forms of documentation as well, but many companies don’t even bother with that nowadays. As long as you’re 18 years of age, have been employed for at least 3 months consecutively and make about $1000 per month, you’ll meet the basic criteria for most companies. There might be some additional criteria, for instance they might also want to verify that your checking account has been open for a certain period of time and doesn’t have a current history of bad checks or non-sufficient funds (NSF) charges. Approvals are usually sent via email and once approved, the cash is either wired to you or deposited directly into your bank account. So even with bad credit, there are companies out there that provide payday loan services that probably meet your needs. Therefore, don’t let a less than perfect credit history stop you if you find yourself in a situation where a payday loan would help. Instead, seek out lenders who cater to people with bad credit. Another point to keep in mind is that most companies also offer a free application so you can know whether or not you’re approved beforehand without it costing you anything. Help Save Your Marriage - Employ these Four Resources

Monday, February 25th, 2008

By Susan Wise You can help save your marriage. These days, it has become more socially acceptable to get a divorce. And many times, it is only one partner who wants it while the other is ambivalent about it and would rather try and make the marriage work. The problem is that it takes the effort of both spouses in order to avoid divorce. To help save your marriage, you both have to agree that divorce is not an option. You got married for a strong reason in the first place love. Think back to the whys that helped you fall in love and build on it. Sometimes though, to help save your marriage, takes outside help. And that is perfectly all right. It is totally up to you and your spouse to employ any resources necessary to help save your marriage. These resources can come from a variety of places. Just know that you will have a higher percentage rate of success if both you and your spouse agree on what steps to take in order to help save your marriage. Resource #1 Self help books can offer some guidance as to which areas you may need to focus on to help save your marriage. There are a plethora of topics to choose from so take your time and find one that you both feel will help the most. Some self-help books focus on how to keep finance troubles from leading you both to divorce. Other books that might help save your marriage touch on infidelity, substance abuse, how children affect marriage, rebuilding trust and much more. Resource #2 Marriage counselors and therapists can help save your marriage. Sometimes, a third, uninvolved party is what is needed to serve in an intermediary role. A counselor or therapist brings a unique perspective to your situation which can help save your marriage. You and your spouse are too close to the situation and your feelings can cloud judgment and impartiality. Resource #3 If you are involved with a church, chances are that you can book a session with your clergyman or even request the assistance of a mentor couple to help save your marriage. Many churches have married established couples who serve as mentors for people just getting married as well as for those marriage partners who are having troubles. This option is similar to counseling or therapy, but it offers a totally different outlook. It just might give you a different direction in which to help save your marriage. Resource #4 The internet plays an active role for practically anyone who uses a computer. To help save your marriage, use a search engine to look for information regarding marriage as well as what you perceive your marriage problems to be. Read personal experiences of others through stories on websites and blogs. Learn from their mistakes and solutions. See if any of their situations mirror yours and perhaps borrow a few of there coping skills and solutions. What works for others may not work to help save your marriage, but at least you learn from those mistakes and perhaps come away with a different perspective on your marriage. To help save your marriage, you will have to practice your listening and communications skills. In other words, make a commitment to the cause. You and your spouse are worth it. Church Construction Loans

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Kevin_Stith]Kevin Stith Building a church is not as easy as building another facility. This is because of the nature of the building as well as the amount of planning that you need. There are many financial institutions that offer loans for such projects. Before starting a project of this nature and asking for a church construction loan, you have to follow some specific steps and procedures. If all goes well, you will have completed your project successfully. The worst case will leave you with a semi-constructed, non-operational building, with no funds to continue as well as many debts. This is the reason why you need to plan each and every step before you proceed. First of all you need to set your goals. What will the size of the church be? What materials will be used? Are there any alternatives you could consider regarding building materials? How long will it take until the completion of the project? Those are all very specific questions that have to be answered. Not only will answering such questions help you plan, but they are also essential in order to qualify for a loan. The next step is to assemble a strong team that will cooperate with you. This includes the consultants, architects lenders, builders, and the like. This team needs to be well informed of your goals, and their purpose is to help you complete the task as efficiently as possible. This is very essential since qualifying for a church loan is not very easy. Finally, you should make sure that the financial institution where you chose to get the loan has experience on such projects. Your lender should understand your needs. You should require an agreement that doesnt restrict you to such an extent that you cannot complete your vision 100%. Delivering a Great Best Man Speech

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

By James Nardel Being the best man is a great honor because it means that your friend or brother would not want anyone else beside him when he marries the woman that he loves. Other than throwing a bachelor party and keeping the ring on the big day, many best men feel as though they dont have a whole lot of responsibility, but they do! Best man wedding speeches are often quite flaky and could use a whole lot of work, but planning a great bachelor party took priority and unfortunately the speech is thrown together at the last moment for some. But, it doesnt need to be this way! As the best man, you can give a best man wedding speech that will impress everyone at the reception! First, plan ahead. As soon as you know that your buddy is getting married you should consider what type of speech you will give. Other than the father of the bride, the best man is typically the person that gives a speech first, so you want it to be something that will mean something to you, to the bride and groom, and will grab the attention of the other reception guests. Start Off Strong Congratulate both the bride and groom on finally tying the knot. If you dont know the bride all that well ensure her that you would like to get to know her much better, but you know she must be great if your friend chose her out of all the women in the world. Thank the couple for making you part of their day. This seems like a generic opening, but it will surprise everyone since you wont be stammering and at a loss for words like many best men are! Keep It Going After youve gotten the attention of everyone you are free to relate a funny story from the bachelor party such as your friend going on and on about how beautiful his bride is when the guys all thought they would be reminiscing about the past or something else that is appropriate for all of the wedding guests to hear. Passing the Microphone When you are done relating your story be sure to congratulate the bride and groom again and wish them luck in their new marriage. Tell them that they are an inspiration to you, if they are. If you are going to say anything mushy or emotional, now is the time to do it. While some best men think that best man wedding speeches dont need any forethought or preparation, the best ones have both. You have been chosen as the best man because the groom thought you were just that, the best man for the job. So, dont just plan a great party and hold onto the ring for the groom, give him and the bride a speech that everyone will remember. Why and How to Measure Your Body Fat Percentage

Monday, February 18th, 2008

By Lynn VanDyke Your body fat percentage is one of the best indicators of your fitness and nutrition program. Many people weigh themselves and judge their results on the bathroom scale. However there is one major problem with using the scale to determine your progress. The best way to illustrate this is by using an example. Lets say you have been working out for a month now. You initially weighed 160 pounds. You weigh yourself this morning and you are 157 pounds. Your cannot believe that youve only lost three pounds! You become frustrated and want to give up. The scale shows that you lost three pounds, but it does not tell you if you lost fat or muscle. Testing your body fat percentage will tell you how much fat you lost and how much muscle youve gained. You see even though the scale says you lost three pounds, you could have lost 8 pounds of fat and gained 5 pounds of muscle. That would equal a net loss of 3 pounds. As a trainer, I always test my clients body fat percentage. There are three main ways to measure body fat. They are calipers, bio-impedance devices and hydrostatic testing. Hydrostatic testing can be done at universities or hospitals, but tend to be more expensive than most people are willing to pay for a body fat test. Calipers and bio-impedance, or hand held, devices are more common. Both have a margin of error of about 3-4%. Calipers are better if someone else takes the measurements for you and they are trained professionals. Caliper measurements need to be taken in at least three areas (usually belly, thigh and triceps) and then average them all out to get an overall body fat percentage. Bio-impedance devices are easy to do by yourself. It takes about 7 seconds for a reading to register. The reading can vary depending on your body’s hydration levels, sodium levels, temperature, and a host of other things. There are devices that you can hold in your hands or ones you can step on. Overall the actual number is not as important as the range you are in. You also want the overall pattern of your body fat percentage to decrease until you are at healthy levels. Calipers and bio-impedance devices will both give you an estimate to as to how much body fat you actually have. Here are ranges of body fat levels for women: Essential Fat= 10-12% Athletes= 14-20% Fitness= 21-24% Acceptable= 25-31% Obese= 32% plus Here are ranges of body fat levels for men: Essential Fat= 2-4% Athletes= 6-13% Fitness= 14-17% Acceptable= 18-25% Obese= 25% plus *These numbers are according to The American Council on Exercise Knowing your body fat level is a far better indicator of your progress. It allows you to accurately assess whether your fitness and nutrition program is working for you or against you. Simply using a bathroom scale will not let you know how much fat you have lost or how much muscle has been gained. Family and Relationships: A Capable Woman - a Caring Society

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

By John C. Anderson The final 22 verses of chapter 31 in the book of Proverbs present an acrostic poem in which each verse begins with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet. This poem contains the sage advice of a mother to her son, a king named Lemuel. She outlines for him what he should be looking for in a prospective wife. Lemuel’s mother describes a capable woman, one any mother would be delighted to see her son marry. It is a woman she describes that would inevitably help create the family and relationships her son would have one day. This woman is a jewel. She can be trusted (verse 11) to do the right thing, whether in evaluating and purchasing real estate (verse 16), buying and selling merchandise (verses 14 and 24), managing the household staff (verses 15 and 27), providing for the needs of her family (verses 15 and 21), or helping the poor and needy (verse 20). She is an industrious individual (verses 13, 15, 17-19, 22). She is a person of inner strength (verse 25), wisdom and compassion (verse 26). Though this portrayal describes an idealized woman whose characteristics would be hard for anyone, woman or man, to live up to, it says a lot about the biblical ideal for society. Caring for her family and supporting her husband is her primary focus, but neither her husband nor the society in which she lives constrains her from using her many skills. She is able to serve her family and others because the cultural and legal standards of her society give her freedom to function in areas that many societies, even to this day, prohibit women from entering. While few individuals can measure up to this idealized standard, even fewer societies throughout history have accorded women the opportunities and freedom to do so. The biblical ideal portrayed in Proverbs 31 indicates that the cultural standards the Creator set for His people were far more progressive than many would believe. The Bible relates that God created man and woman in His image (Genesis 1:27). The first woman, Eve, is pictured as having been created from Adam’s rib, not as some subspecies but as a person of comparable talents and abilities (Genesis 2:18). In marriage, a woman is instructed to submit to her husband’s authority (1 Peter 3:1), but in the next breath the husband is commanded to treat her with understanding and to honor her as one having the same potential for eternal life–”heirs together of the grace of life,” as the apostle Peter expressed it (verse 7). The biblical model for society is patriarchal in structure, but it has little in common with the selfish, uncaring, male-dominated patriarchies this world has produced throughout history. Rather, the biblical model reflects God’s own loving character. A husband is to love his wife as much as he does himself, and the wife is to respect her husband (Ephesians 5:33). A society with this at its foundation doesn’t establish a multitude of rules restricting women at every point of the compass. Some fortunate couples have succeeded in working together in the kind of loving harmony and respect implied by Proverbs 31, but sadly it has never become norm for our society and culture as the Bible directs us to follow.
