A Few Things About Flowers

Monday, March 31st, 2008

By Robert Brand For those who do not have a green thumb, adding flowers to a landscape can be nothing short of challenging. But, in order to succeed, you do not have to know many details. Instead, you need a few basic instructions and a basic idea of how it all works. From this basic knowledge, you can have beautiful flowers year and year again. Can you invest some time in learning this? If you can, and are willing, youll learn how flowers can be easy to handle and grow. First off, there are several different types of flowers. There are two basic ideas to remember here. Those that are called annuals will only last one year, in the season that you plant them. Perennials will come back year after year as long as they have enough stored nutrients for winter. From here, you can decide which flowers you would like to have in your garden. Start with simple, already grown flowers. Youll find hundreds of varieties available. Choose those that you enjoy. Before purchasing though, take a look at the tag. The tag that comes with flowers can offer you a wealth of information. For example, it will tell you what amount of sun the flowers prefer. Some will like full sun (sun for most of the day), full shade (shaded most of the day), or a partial mix. Will the location you plant the flowers be in the right amount of sun? The tags will also tell you when to plant the flowers. Usually, if you are in a good store, they will not sell you plants that cant be transported during that season. Even still, you will need to prepare your soil with a good quality of nutrients. You can test this with a simple tester found at your local garden shop. Or, you can simply purchase garden soil for the flowers that has the nutrients needed. Again, go back to the tag and see the frequency of when the flowers need to be watered and fed. You can take these simple things and create a beautiful flower garden. You can learn more about the specific flowers you enjoy online if you like as well. Whatever you do, if you take the time to choose your flowers wisely, and add them to your garden with care, youll have many beneficial weeks of beauty from them. Online Dating- When A Woman Emails You First

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

By Teddy Shabba Every now and then if you have a good profile written a woman will make the first move and send you an email. When this happens you can handle it one of two ways depending on what she has written to you. (This is under the assumption that you looked at her profile and liked what you saw; if you don’t like her profile simply delete and move on) If in her email she gives you her number to call then all you have to do is call her and set up a time and place to meet. Whatever you do decide to do in this situation, do NOT email her as the phone is always better than online. If in her email she didn’t give you her phone number; in your email that you send her you must ask for her phone number or attempt to setup a meeting. Anything else can be said or discovered once you meet in person. Now, if she responds to your email without giving you her phone number or agreeing on a meeting time and place, it is important to realize that you are more than likely dealing with someone who doesn’t want to meet in person. No matter what, it is important that you remember your only goal in online dating is to meet women in person. Women who are willing to meet in person give out their phone number and/or agree to meet. Women who enjoy chit chatting online find ways not to meet up and don’t give out their phone numbers. To Know Him Is to Love Him

Friday, March 28th, 2008

By Ann Stewart More years ago than I care to remember there was a popular song that went like this: To know, know, know him, is to love, love, love him; and I do. It had a catchy tune and sounded romantic. After all, when youre in love with someone, you want to know all there is to know about that person. The more you get to know that person, the more youre likely to love him/her. Thats the way it is with Gods Love. You cannot give unconditional love unless you have it, and you dont know you have it until you give it away. You see, Gods kind of love is very patient and kind. It is not envious, proud, or hypocritical, and does not seek self-satisfaction, exasperation or evil thoughts. It hates wrong-doing, but always rejoices in the truth. Love will endure much, being ever faithful, hopeful, and dependable. (1Cor.13: 4-8) Is that a tall order, or what! If you are to measure up to that definition of love, than you may be tempted to give up before you start, right? Its no wonder that so many marriages, partnerships, friendships and families are broken up every day! The big question is, how can you ever be so much in love forever, even when the other persons love grows cold? Could you love someone who does not know you and you know is far from perfect? Your answer to that might be: Only God could do that! Well, guess what? While you were yet a sinner, Christ died for you! (Rom. 5: 9) In fact, you love Him, because He first loved you! You see, God is Love. Thats who He is! Without Him there is no real Love. If you should say that you love God, yet at the same time hate your brother, you would be lying. Why? Well, how could you not love your brother whom you see and know, and love God whom you have not seen? Therefore, if you really love God, then you would love your brother as well! (1 John 4: 19-21) Thats why there is really only one Commandment: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. In fact, Jesus added that, if you obey that commandment, you will live! (Luke 10: 27-28) Thats interesting! I had never quite noticed that last part before! If you strive to live your life filled with Gods love, then you will truly live a full, wonderful life here on earth as well as an everlasting life! Are you sure that you have everlasting life? Do you know God? You will come to love Him more and more by spending daily quality time with Him in His Word. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as he is, so are we in this world. (1 John 4: 15-17) Be encouraged, friend. If you are struggling with love, go to God and ask Him to help you. Jesus promises that if you stay close to Him and read and meditate on His Word, you can ask whatever you want, and it shall be done for you! (John 15: 7) and: If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode wit him. Tooth-Whitening in a Nutshell

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

By Oma Edoja Tooth Whitening To Be or Not to Be? Not satisfied with the color of your teeth? Do not despair. You can literally buy yourself a whiter smile! Though tooth whitening is not a dentally required procedure, it could greatly enhance your self-esteem and improve your appearance. There are several tooth whitening products and techniques currently available. Basically these can be divided into two groups: (a) Dental Office Whitening involves a trip to your dentist. A mold of your teeth and gums is made, filled with peroxide, fitted onto your teeth and gums and left on for one to two hours. Three to four of such visits later and your pearly whites are officially whitened! A more advanced form of this technique is Laser Bleaching. Here concentrated peroxide gel is applied and activated by a special light, usually Argon. This speeds up the whitening process considerably, though it is more expensive. (b) At-Home Whitening is much less expensive and more convenient than Dental Office Whitening but is not as effective. Brush-on gels, strips, or trays with bleaching gels are used. Their peroxide concentration is considerably lower than professional tooth whitening; hence they are not as effective. Also, over-the-counter at-home products may contain alcohol, abrasives or acids, all with unpleasant side effects. Teeth whitening can lighten the color of your teeth several shades, depending on the method chosen. Its effects could last from six months to three years. However, these procedures only work on natural teeth, not dentures, crowns or veneers. Care of whitened teeth includes twice-daily brushing with fluoride toothpaste, cutting down on sugary snacks and drinks, and those which stain the teeth (e.g. tea, red wine, and coffee). You should definitely consider stopping smoking. Also, a visit to your dentist at least once a year is a must. Side effects, though temporary, may include sensitivity to cold, gum discomfort, sore throat and white patches on the gum line. However, these usually clear up within days of completing the treatment. Still want to buy a whiter smile? Why not head straight for your dentists office? She can assess your suitability right away. Your dream of whiter teeth could come true sooner than you think! (c) Oma Edoja 2006 Oma Edoja is a freelance writer who writes on a variety of topics. She is available to write for you! Do You Think You Have Depression?

Monday, March 24th, 2008

By D Smith Do you have days where nothing can make you happy? You are not alone. I ignored my depressive thoughts about life for years. Unfortunately I didn’t do anything to fix my situation until they became so dehabilitating that I had no choice. Mental disorders are common in the United States and internationally. In a given year, an estimated 22.1% of Americans aged 18 and older (about 1 in 5 adults) suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder. According to the 1998 United States Census population estimate, this figure translates to 44.3 million people! In addition, 4 of the 10 leading causes of disability in the U.S. and other developed countries are mental disorders, with major depression being the leading cause of disability. It is estimated that depression alone will occur in approximately 18.8 million American adults, or about 9.5% of the United States population aged 18 or above. If you are a woman, you are twice as likely than a man (12% vs. 6.6%) to be affected by depression each year. My symptoms of depression started with an occasional case of the blahs. I was able to cope with them for a long time. I thought that since this happens to a lot of people, that it would pass and I didn’t need to worry. I didn’t think about finding out why it was happening. Besides, after a few drinks I always felt much better. I later learned that depressive disorders commonly occur with substance abuse… So what is the cause of all of this sadness in our society? Speaking from experience, I wasn’t happy with my life and the direction it was taking me. I would look back at a past week and not be able to recall one thing that I enjoyed. It was a blur. Nor would I look forward to the coming weeks ahead. All I saw were potential stresses that were going to present themselves. But I didn’t do anything about it. I accepted that this was life. Looking back I don’t know how I could have ever believed this. When we are suffering from depression, it seems that we lose our objectivity. Does thinking that we have nothing to look forward to sound rational to you? Where did my enjoyment in life disappear to? It was my perception of the world that had slowly changed and I was unable to see it because of the control that my depression had over me. In the fast pace of today’s world we often don’t allow ourselves time to evaluate our lives and set goals to realize our ambitions. Whether you do or do not have depression, you’re reading this article because you think something might be wrong with your life. Have you tried to identify the things you are unhappy with? The first step for me was to educate myself and find out what it was that I was dealing with. I started reading books. I consulted a psychologist to get some unbiased insight about myself. Otherwise, how do we find solutions for problems that we don’t yet understand? So let’s get started. What’s stopping you? Dandruff- What Causes Dandruff?

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By CD Mohatta Dandruff is one of the most common scalp problems. But it is surprising that no precise cause off dandruff is known. There is therefore no cure for dandruff, but you can treat it whenever it shows. There are many factors that trigger dandruff and some speculation about the possible causes. Let us talk about them so that we can keep our scalp squeaky clean from dandruff. Dandruff and fungus- Dandruff is a kind of Seborrheic dermatitis and it is believed that dandruff is caused by a fungus that normally lives on the human skin and feeds on skin oils. During dandruff this fungus known as malassezia multiplies manifold and creates problems in the scalp. Why a fungus, which otherwise lies dormant, suddenly flares up and multiplies is not precisely known. Dandruff and other causes- Other causes that are held responsible for dandruff are - stress, poor hygiene of scalp, over use of shampoos, under use of shampoo, chemical treatments that harm the hair and scalp etc. the incidence of dandruff is less in summer than in winter. We can deduce that less sun may be causing dandruff, but exposing more to sun may cause serious skin problems. This article is only for informative purposes. Soil, Drainage, and Water

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Ian White Having a beautiful and thriving yard isnt an act of chance. Before you go shopping for trees, flowers, plants and shrubs, you should understand that half of them are meant to be underground. The root systems of your future plants and trees will decide if they live or die, and their future health is determined by the environment you will be planting them in. So, before you bring home a truck load of things to plant, you should take a good look at the soil and drainage conditions on your property to see if there is any room for improvement. Soil is the foundation of plant life. Soil serves multiple purposes. It holds the structure upright, and it is also the source of food, water and air that roots need to live. To determine if your soil is healthy, and to learn what type of soil you have, you should squeeze it between your hands. If the soil forms a tight lump and keeps its shape, it is mainly composed of clay. If the soil does not create any shape, the soil is mostly sand. You are wanting soil to take a shape, then fall apart when the pressure is released. This is loam soil. Loam soil is a mixture of organic matter, plus large and small soil particles. Clay soil will hold water very well. Clay soil holds water so well that it can kill. Clay soil is very dense. Air does not circulate properly in clay for plants and trees to grow well. Alternatively, sandy soil has an abundance of air circulation, however it will not hold water very well. Even if your soil experiment points to loam soil, you should take a sample to a lab to be tested. This soil sample will give you much insight on what you can do to enrich the growing soil in your flower beds and yard. Soil testing will tell you about the pH, nutrient and organic levels in your soil. Most problems are easily rectified by adding an additive to the soil. Your soil may also benefit by having a conditioner such as manure, peat moss or sand added in to give it a better consistency. While this may seem time consuming, it is well worth it and the benefits of the labor can last for years. Once you have your soil in proper condition, you will need to think about water. Most plants prefer soil that is evenly moist. This means that while the surface may be dry, it is generally moist underground. If you live in an area that is subject to droughts, you should only purchase trees, shrubs and other plant life that thrive in these growing conditions. However, even these plants should not be forgotten, and they will not appreciate being left to bake in the sun without a drink. You should consider installing an irrigation system for them. Irrigation systems work well for most all growing regions. Irrigation systems help newly planted trees and shrubs get water while they still have immature root systems. Irrigation systems assure that your plants and trees are being watered at the roots, where it is most beneficial. Irrigation systems are also a great way to conserve water, as it is not wasted. Next, do you have an area on your property that is prone to stand in water after a heavy rain? If so, your property may have poor drainage. Areas that stand in water generally tend to have soil which has a high clay content, as well. You can improve this matter by adding sand, or other organic matter, to the soil. Standing water could be a result of a dip in the area, or shallow soil. If soil is shallow, roots are not allowed to properly extend downward and anchor. This would keep water from draining properly. The best thing you can do for dips or shallow soil is to install drainage tiles for a mature yard, and to plant new trees, bushes and plants in raised beds in these areas. Now that you have learned about your soil, thought about a watering system and inspected your property for shallow soil or dips, you are ready to go to the plant nursery. Remember that all plants and trees have their own niche that they prefer to live in. Dont buy plants which like shade if your yard does not provide any. Likewise, if you have an abundantly shady yard, dont choose plants which need full sun. By being choosy about which plants and trees you purchase–and being mindful of their particular needs, you will most assuredly have a thriving and bountiful yard for years to come. Student Loan Debt Consolidation

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By Simon Rand As with most debt, people are looking to simplify, simplify, simplify. This typically means combining debt to one low-interest payment. The answer for most college and postgraduate students is a student loan debt consolidation. The whole enterprise of student loan debt consolidation is wide and varied. A great many lending institutions, both private and federal, are out there waiting to lend a hand and a great deal of money. When considering student loan debt consolidation, it would be wise to take it step by step. A very simple and useful first step would be in the direction of your college advisors or financial aid administrators office. You can begin the process by first finding out if student loan debt consolidation is in your best interest, and if so, where and how to start. Qualifications for student loan debt consolidation must be the first consideration. There are some basic guidelines to follow: 1. Students NOT enrolled more than half-time, or students out of school for 3-6 months. 2. Students in grace period (up to 6 months after leaving school), or with existing loans in deferment or default status. 3. Students with no previous consolidation loans. Of course, there are exceptions and instances where these general qualifications for student loan debt consolidation will not apply, especially in the case of some postgraduate programs. When applying for a consolidation loan, another basic consideration is to weigh the differences between federal (a.k.a. direct) consolidation loans as opposed to private consolidation loans. These two types of student loan debt consolidation programs differ mainly in terms of interest rates and credit ratings. Federal student loan debt consolidation requires that the applicant have at least one Direct or Federal loan outstanding, such as a Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL). Currently, the interest rate on federal loans is based on the average of the loans being consolidated. Once the interest rate is calculated it is fixed for the life of the loan. Private student loan debt consolidation interest rates can range from the current prime lending rate to whatever the loan institution sees fit, based on credit rating. Those who apply for this kind of loan must have a good credit rating or provide a cosigner with one. Student loan debt consolidation will take a degree (forgive the pun) of due diligence and patience to complete. But in some cases it may decrease your student loan payments up to half and simplify your life by even more. The length of consolidation loans can span from 10-25 years, with extended plans available from 15-30 years. On the bright side, the interest paid on most student loans and/or student loan debt consolidation is tax deductible. In the “big picture” of life an education is a priceless commodity. Knowledge is power and with that power great things can be accomplished. Simon is the pen name for a professional writer on many topics. His work includes book authorship, TV producer and independent writer for many national magazines. student-loans.mustsee.info Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Simon_Rand http://EzineArticles.com/?Student-Loan-Debt-Consolidation&id=330076 online ativan cheap ambien how long does withdrawl from ambien take ambien erection problems

Hoodia Cactus - What is It?

Monday, March 17th, 2008

By Tim Grimsley Hoodia Gordonii is actually not a cactus at all, it is a plant. Hoodia Gordonii plants lack a few of the characteristics that would be necessary to be a cactus, Most people still call it a cactus though. It does look much like a cactus. Hoodia Gordonia grows in the Kalahari desert in South Africa. There are a couple dozen plants that belong to the Hoodia family. The Gordonii variety of plant grows in the Kalahari. Recently, the Hoodia Gordonii “cactus” has gained a lot of publicity for being a wonder diet supplement. With all the news about it lately, one would think that it was a newly discovered plant, but actually the Hoodia Gordonii plant of South Africa was first studied in the 1930’s. It was documented then that Hoodia Gordonii possessed a strong ability to suppress the appetite. A general feeling of well being is the second most noted effect of Hoodia Gordonii. African Bushmen in South Africa have reportedly used the Hoodia Gordonii for over 1,000 years as an appetite suppressant. They used it to stop hunger at times when other food sources were scarce. In the 1990’s a British Company PhytoPharm discovered the active ingredient in Hoodia Gordonii and named it molecule P57. The studies behind this molecule are closely guarded, but there most be a lot of potential for it, as millions of dollars in development money has been spent. Some drug companies are also trying to create a synthetic form of the molecule. Hoodia Has quickly grown into the hottest new product for weightloss. All evidence points to big future for this supplement. Are You Doing These Things for Your Dry, Aging Hands?

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By Louise Forrest Hand care begins with nutrients, removal of toxins, and an infusion of moisture. If you are eating good, organic food and drinking plenty of water, doing regular hand massages will increase circulation which will increase the nutrients to you skin cells and will and aids in the removal of toxins. Increased internal moisture is also a great benefit that your skin will get through a healthy diet, fluid intake, and regular hand massage. You can examine and change your diet and fluid intake, and see a manicurist regularly to achieve these benefits or you can learn to pamper your hands at home. I do have to tell you that the good side to home massage is that you spend less money, but the bad side is that you do not receive the same relaxation that you would by visiting a manicurist. If you want beautiful hands and nails from home, check out our sections on diet to learn more about what you should be eating to achieve healthy skin, drink your water, and do the following massage at least once per week. In order to do a proper hand massage, you will want a lotion or oil that can be warmed. Many times, you will find that warming in the microwave will work, but you should be very careful using this method. The emollient (lotion or oil) can get very hot very quickly in the microwave. It is better to find a product that is packaged in individual packets which are designed to be placed in a bowl of hot water to warm them. You can often find these for hair care and they are fine to use for your hand massage. You will need a mild cleanser, a kitchen sink full of warm water, a hand towel (you will get oil or lotion on this so do not choose that hand-embroidered towel that has been passed through generations), and the above-mentioned emollient that you can warm. The water in your sink should be fairly warm but not hot. You want to help soften your skin to prepare it for the massage, but you do not want to strip natural oils from your skin. Make sure that you are wearing an older, short-sleeved shirt or that you can roll (or otherwise fix) your sleeves up to your elbow. First, rest both hands in the sink, making sure that the water is high enough to reach at least half way up your forearm. Let them soak until they begin to feel relaxed. You may choose to do the massage as part of a bath, which makes it easier to soak your hand and forearms comfortably. Second, smooth the warm oil (or warm lotion) all over both hands and forearms from the elbow to the tips of your nails, getting between each finger and along each nail. Begin to massage by using your thumb to gently rub small circles along the opposite arm, starting at the elbow. If you thumb cannot comfortably massage a portion of the arm, use the fingertips. Work you way down the forearm, massaging both the inside and outside of the forearm. Once you have massaged the entire arm, you should be at your wrist. Using your thumb, give this area some extra care and massage time. Wrists are often inflamed and may be sore due to repetitive motions due to work. This inflammation can slow the circulation to your hands, which is why you want to spend some extra massage time here. Massage both the inner and outer wrist in tiny circles. Resting the back of your hand (being massaged) on the fingers of the other hand, place your thumb in the palm. You will feel plenty of muscle in this area and will probably feel quite a bit of tension in these muscles. Massage tiny circles over each muscle, relieving the tension in them. If a muscle feels particularly tight, massage it until it begins to loosen. Once your palm muscles are fairly limber, you are ready to move to the fingers and thumb. Begin at the base of your pinky (smallest) finger with your massaging fingertips on the back and your massaging thumb on the palm-side of the finger. Rub small circles with both your thumb and fingers at the same time; work from the base to the tip. Repeat this finger massage two times on each finger and on your thumb. Turn your hand over and rub tiny circles around each nail, making sure to massage all the way around each nail. Repeat the process on the other arm and wipe excess oil from both arms and hands using the hand towel. Louise Forrest has created the ultimate FREE Health & Beauty guide.
